South Carolina
The New South Carolina State Gazette is a joint publication of the South Carolina Archives and History Foundation and the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. This is a revival of a publication with which many of you may be familiar. The department first published The New South Carolina State Gazette in January 1968 to keep constituents updated and informed about happenings at the department and throughout the state. It was published until 1995, when it was replaced by Currents, which was published until budget cuts forced its elimination in 2000. The New South Carolina State Gazette "derives from the great South Carolina Gazette, founded in Charleston by Thomas Whitmarsh in 1732 but published by the famous Timothy family from 1733 until 1802." While the newspaper had different titles over the years, from 1796 to 1802 it was titled The South Carolina State Gazette.
